The first and last meeting in Budapest

After two years of frequent online meetings, the first face-to-face working meeting for the project "Act Now for the UN Sustainable Development Goals" took place on the weekend of 20-22 May. The participants' mood was therefore joyful and anticipating when they arrived in Budapest. The weather also played along with 29 degrees and sunshine.

On Friday, the group work began. Unfortunately, not all teachers of the project could attend this meeting, so some working groups made video calls to group members during the meeting. At the beginning, the participants still had many questions, but they quickly adjusted to each other.

The first day ended with a meal together at a long table in a restaurant with creative, modern cuisine. There, the teachers got to talk to each other and were also able to exchange ideas with the participants of other working groups.

On Saturday, the group work continued. One group was so concentrated that they worked long into the break. Then it was suddenly afternoon and the touristic part was on the agenda. During the city tour, a lively, young Budapest city guide explained the eventful history of the city to the participants.  The tour was followed by a boat trip on the Danube: With wonderful sunshine and a little wind, the group was able to relax on the boat and view the beautiful city from the water. Everyone visibly enjoyed this little time out.

„"It was really difficult to work together virtually at times over the last 2 years, as we first had to get to know each other in the group and understand what the others were actually doing. Hence it is so nice to finally get together in real life!“

By now, the teachers had already become one big family. It was kind of a class trip that everyone really wants to go on and enjoy.

Suddenly it was already Sunday and the work meeting came to a conclusion. The time flew by. The groups presented a summary of what their unit of the material was about in a few words.

Everyone agreed that it was good and important to finally see each other live and that it was a wonderful weekend. At the same time, it had a slightly bitter aftertaste. After all, it was the last working meeting. But soon there will be a reunion: At the release of the digital materials on 14 October in Berlin!
