Balıkesir: Two-day teacher training seminar in Turkey

From 12-13 May 2018 the annual 'Teacher Training STEM Seminar & Hands on Science Workshop monitoring on the theme' took place at Balıkesir, Turkey.  

Teachers from all over the country participated in this two-day seminar organized by Nilgün Erentay, main NSC of Science on Stage Turkey. At the event the Science on Stage network, its activities and exemplary STEM teacher projects were presented to the participants. Also four other workshops, one fieldwork for observing sky at night and one day trekking and field work at Kaz Mountains were offered to the participants. 

Zağnospaşa Secondary School hosted this event in collaboration with Science on Stage Turkey, Balıkesir Municipality and National Education Directorate of Balıkesir Province.

At the first day of the seminar, two presentations and three workshops were realised: Examples of Science on Stage projects at schools, an Arduino Coding workshop for teachers, an outdoor game for teachers at nature called 'Magic Tower' and the workshop 'Ebru Art'. After that the participants were invited to a night- sky observation with telescope.

At the second day of the seminar, a full-day trekking trip to Kaz Mountains was organised and the flora of the mountains were examined by the teachers. Nilgün Erentay gave a field workshop on how to conduct water quality tests at the Sutüven waterfall.

The participants teachers developed new skills  about science, technology and art and made friendship at this two-days seminar.
