UK visiting Italy: Science on Stage workshop in South Tyrol

At the invitation of Monica Zanella from Science on Stage Italy, David Featonby from Science on Stage UK took a workshop to a group of teachers in South Tyrol on 19. October. 20 teachers gathered for a full day of training at 'Schloss Rechtenthal' a conference centre at Tramin. David Featonby startet with the workshop 'What Happens Next?', which involved everyone in some hard thinking. After a short break he gave a seminar on 'Colour Vision Deficiency' - an important issue that has been neglected in many schools across Europe. Also the teachers were interested to hear about Science on Stage, about the ways in which they could get involved and the different activities which Science on Stage promotes. With 'Spinning Tops' and 'Fantastic Feats' the event was finished with two further extraordinary workshops.

As a result the teachers taking part were enthralled by the workshops and about discovering different kinds of approaches to teach science at school. The teachers slipped into student' s shoes and experienced science from another point of view. On the whole, this interactive conference was a great success!
