Turkey: Seminar with beautiful mathematics in Bolu

Meltem Yontar, one of the teachers of the Turkish Science on Stage delegation for the upcoming European festival in Debrecen, carried out a workshop about her project at a training seminar in Bolu which was organised by Nilgün Erentay, head of Science on Stage Turkey. The workshop focused on the number Phi, which was considered to be the number of beauty in ancient Egypt and Greece, hidden in many beautiful things of life. In fact everything that looks good to the human eye is in proportion to the number of Phi (1,618). On this basis the participants were asked to make their own rugs with colourful rug motifs. Participating teachers designed their own studies with small groups they formed. In the mathematical proportions of the rugs they discovered whether or not there was a Phi number.
