Meet up at the Science on Stage Portugal Regional Events!

Already since December 2015 Science on Stage Portugal started to run a programme of regional events planned for five different cities from north to south of the country.

The first event happened in Lisbon at 5 December 2015 with great success. That day started with a teacher training at a 'NUCLIO Pilot Day' at the Centro de Interpretação Ambiental da Pedra do Sal in S. Pedro do Estoril near the sea shore of Lisbon and by evening went on a Café Science & Art in Lisbon Planetarium Calouste Gulbenkian a Ciência Viva Science Centre. One of the Portuguese delegates of the former European Science on Stage festival 2015 – Liliana Fernandes – presented her teaching project 'Meet our neighbours' and described her experience during the festival in London. The NSC coordinator then presented the organisation of Science on Stage, the networks activities as well as the opportunities for Portuguese teachers. The training went on with activities about 'Inquiry Based Science Learning' and communication about the project 'Digital Schools of Europe'. In the evening in the planetarium an intimate setting took place between 'comet' tea, coffee and cookies. Participants heard secrets about lasers by the scientist Gonçalo Figueira (from IPFN and Instituto Superior Técnico), advises how to photograph the sky by Miguel Claro (Dark Sky Alqueva)and listen to music from 'Skylight', a 'Global Science Opera' by conductor Oded Ben-Orin. Before the end of the day NUCLIO with Mario Ramos toasted us with night sky watching through telescope.

The next regional event took place in Águeda, Coimbra in the Instituto de Educação e Cidadania (Mamarrosa) on 16 January 2016 with more than 20 teachers attenting a teacher training about inquiry based learning, the European platform Science on Stage and the project Go-Lab. The event was organised by Álvaro Folhas. He and Honorata Pereira, were two of the Portuguese Delegates that attended the European Science on Stage festival 2015 in London and on that day had the opportunity to present and discuss their educational projects with participants.

The NSC coordinator Isabel Borges spread the spirit of Science on Stage also for the next European Science on Stage festival 2017 in Debrecen. In the evening some families and general public went to the Café Ciência about black holes and their mysteries.
