Ljubljana:  Second seminar ‘From School Experiments to Experiments at Festivals and on Stages’

On 12 May 2018 the second part of the seminar 'From School Experiments to Experiments at Festivals and Stages' was organised by Science on Stage Slovenia and took place at the UL Pedagogical Faculty in Ljubljana. The focus was on workshops on practical experiments.

First Edvard Kobal, director of the Slovenian Science Foundation, welcomed the participants and invited them to apply for the 24th Slovenian Science Festival with international participation in September 2018. At this event also the Slovenian teacher delegates for the European Science on Stage festival 2019 in Cascais, Portugal, will be chosen.

A one-hour experimental presentation on 'Water over the head' by Maša and Miha Kukec followed. After that Maša Sojer presented interesting innovations with wood.

After the break, all participants split into two groups: one group examined biofuels and did further experimental research on fermentation (alcoholic fermentation). The second group investigated the 'act of murder' with experiments related to forensics (chemistry solves murder) and the identification of fingerprints. After an hour, the groups switched.

The participants were very satisfied with the content and organization of the second part of this seminar. They have gained a lot of experience and useful knowledge.

Last March the Exporecerca Jove fair took place in Barcelona. A jury of four people from Ciencia en Acción awarded two teams with a participation at the national Science on Stage festival that will take place within the 19th edition of 'Ciencia an Acción' at the Cubic, Viladecans, Barcelona, from 5-7 October 2018. At the event in October the Spanish STEM teacher delegation for the European Science on Stage festival #SonS2019 in Cascais, Portugal, will be chosen. Joel Romero Hernàndez with his project "Seeking for the principles behind non-invasive Early Cancer Detection by the use of nanoparticle SERS and probabilistic analysis" as well as David Fernández Prieto, Jorge GarcíaVázquez and Bruno Barreiros Paredes with their project "Study of the efficiency of poto (Epipremnum aureum) and tape (Chlorophytum comosum) in the elimination of volatile organic compounds in homes" will take place in the national finale - maybe, we will also see them in Portugal. Good look!
