The second event of the travelling National Ukrainian Festival
On 16th May, the second event of the travelling National Ukrainian Festival took place in Kyiv. Eight delegates were chosen to take part in the next European Science on Stage Festival 2026.
We are very thankful for and impressed by the continous amazing work of our member country Ukraine during these hard times.

After the first event in Poltava, the second event of the travelling National Ukrainian Festival took place in Kyiv, where 24 projects from the Eastern part of our country were presented. Here are some of the things that were the most memorable for both the organization committee and the STEM teachers who participated.
The Opening Ceremony
The history of Science on Stage was presented by Mr. David Featonby. With his British humour, he impressed the audience. The school administration, city authorities, guests from the education administration and school teachers had been preparing for 40 days to make everything perfect. There were some unforgettable moments for STEAM teachers and more than hundred visitors when school students were dancing a beautiful waltz and after that, some popular rock compositions were played by the Lyceum musical band.
The Second Step of the National Festival Selection
The next best bit was when the participants had prepared their stands and started to demonstrate their projects to the first visitors (teachers from Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast). I was very proud that in spite of the complicated political situation, there were so many outstanding projects that it was really difficult to choose from. There were some which stand out for me as well as for the jury members. Among them are Natalia Trepak (a maths teacher from the small village Lysianka), Tamara Derid (a primary school teacher from Kyiv Oblast), Illia Yahkovskyi (a computer science and biology teacher) and some others. After that there was a special presentation session (5 minutes' talk for every teacher) in front of the jury members. This year, the jury team consisted of two representatives (from Smila and Horishni Plavni), who participated in the previous European Science on Stage Festival and two teachers from the Lyceum-organizer (the best teachers of Kyiv).
Festival visitors
Although the political situation in our country didn’t encourage large numbers of visitors, the festival presenters were cheered on by more than 100 teachers from Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast. The festival was held in a newly renovated safe area in the basement of the Lyceum # 9, where participants and visitors were provided with everything they needed. That’s why everybody really enjoyed being able to take part in the event, which was not traditional for the city. After the event, STEM teachers expressed that they enjoyed sharing their ideas, getting new experiences and information concerning the European community of Science on Stage. Lots of visitors said that the organization was perfect and there was a wonderful atmosphere which spread out not only through the event, but encouraged them to work in the days to come because they were provided with so many useful practical teaching ideas.
The Closing Ceremony
The jury members selected four more future participants (now we have got eight) of the Festival in Klaipeda, and our last selection will take place in Kharkiv on the safe territory of Karazin Kharkiv National University in October 2025. The NSC in Ukraine for Science on Stage Ukraine as well as the Organizing Committee from Lyceum # 9 have made every effort to organize a high-quality event. And it became a reality. And now it is time to improve the chosen projects and benefit from special free courses to improve the future participants' English. I hope it will be possible with the help of our partners from Europe and Ukrainian English teachers. Wish us good luck!
