Serbia: Teachers and Students Together at the Centre of Innovation

Smart House as the Classroom of the Future

Report: Andrijana Vasić

A smart house project was implemented in our school's Project Centre, with expert guidance and support from teachers. The project was designed as an educational model that allows students to engage with modern technologies in a hands-on way. The smart house includes a range of smart systems such as motion sensors, automatic lighting, smart thermostats, and security cameras. After the project was completed, students participating in activities at the Project Centre had the opportunity to explore how these systems work in detail. Teachers organised workshops where students learned about sensor connections, basic programming, and the logic behind smart systems.

Through hands-on activities, students developed teamwork, problem-solving, and logical thinking skills. The smart house is now a permanent part of the school’s Project Centre and is used as an educational tool in both regular classes and extracurricular activities. Teachers emphasise that this type of learning helps students better understand the connection between theory and practice. The project sparked great interest among students, who showed enthusiasm and curiosity throughout all stages of exploring the system’s functionalities.

The 23 teachers involved in the project plan to further enhance the smart house's features and introduce new content in the future. This initiative is an excellent example of how a school can become a hub for modern learning through practical projects. With collaboration among teachers from different subjects, students gained knowledge that will benefit them both in further education and in everyday life.
