AI in school: preparing for the future
As artificial intelligence becomes more and more present in our daily lives, both in the workplace and in leisure spaces as well as in the education sector, it is important for students to familiarise themselves with its concepts and applications. Furthermore, artificial intelligence is becoming a critical topic for their future professional careers. In the labour market of the future, AI areas such as automation, data analysis and machine learning are transforming business processes and creating new opportunities in many sectors. About the project and the authors
In 2023, Science on Stage Germany initiated the project “AI in STEM Education” in order to help teachers integrate this rapidly evolving topic into the classroom. An international team of coordinators identified promising teaching ideas on the topics of artificial intelligence and machine learning within the European Science on Stage network. The concepts and resources were then written up and translated for publication as digital teaching and learning units in English and German, launched at the European Science on Stage Festival in Turku in August 2024.
We are grateful to our authors, teachers Selçuk Yusuf Arslan and his team (Türkiye), Daniel Janssen (Germany), Cláudia Meirinhos (Portugal), Paulo Torcato (Portugal) and Paul Tyler (UK), for their commitment and generosity in sharing their teaching concepts.
