Science on Stage as part of an upcoming conference in Edinburgh
Conference: Improving the teaching of the sciences in the Broad General Education in Scotland
Organisers: Institute of Physics Scotland/Edinburgh Napier University/Association for Science Education Scotland
Date and time: 09:15-15:40, Saturday, 19 September 2026
Venue: Edinburgh Napier University, Sighthill Campus
This day conference is designed to support the career-long professional learning of teachers of the sciences in Scotland, primarily teachers of children ages 8 to 15 years. As part of a programme of around 20 workshops and talks, it will include two Science on Stage sessions:
The science of food, money, and magic: resources from Science on Stage
With: David Featonby
Science on Stage Europe focuses on our aim: "from teachers for teachers". Our recent free downloadable booklets aim to provide short accessible demonstrations to give teachers curriculum linked ideas that can be easily adapted for all ages, primary, secondary and teachers themselves.
As vice chair of Science on Stage and main author David will demonstrate as many experiments as possible from the booklets and give you plenty of new ideas for the year ahead, as well as an introduction to what SonS can offer you.
The Best of Science on Stage 2026
With: Scottish Delegates at Science on Stage 2026
The session will draw on the best activities seen by delegates from Scotland at the Science on Stage Festival in Klaipeda in Lithuania in May 2026. These will draw on projects and activities presented by the teachers who were selected to represent over 30 counties from across Europe and beyond through a competitive application process.
