Workshop on Software Engineering in Ankara
On 7 June 2026, 17 teachers from different subject areas and educational levels gathered in Ankara, Türkiye, for the workshop "Software Engineering 2.0: The Shift in the Age of AI". The workshop was supported through the Engineering Grant of Science on Stage Germany.
After a brief introduction to Science on Stage and its educational resources by Science on Stage Europe Ambassador Dr. Selçuk Yusuf Arslan, software engineer Buğra Çakır presented how AI is transforming software engineering and increasing efficiency across development processes.
The workshop then moved into a hands-on session. Using Open Code and a vibe coding approach, participants developed their own versions of the classic Tetris game. During the coffee break, participants also had the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and build new professional connections.
In the second practical session, participants designed and developed solutions tailored to their own professional needs while applying key software engineering principles. The projects created included systems for assigning students to school clubs based on their interests, tools for organizing important school events and ceremonies, and student monitoring and management systems. Furthermore, participants developed educational resources, including an interactive website designed to help students learn resistor color codes.
By the end of the workshop, participants had experienced firsthand how AI can simplify engineering processes and accelerate software development. They also created their own AI-powered agents and applications, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can be used to streamline daily tasks and improve professional workflows.
