Balkan STEM Innovation Camp 2025: Sharing experiences across borders

The “Balkan STEM Innovation Camp” took place from 23–25 October 2025 in Pristina, Kosovo, bringing together students from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and the Presevo Valley to present their innovative projects in the fields of Science, Technology, and Engineering. Representing Science on Stage North Macedonia, Hasime Jashari attended the event and shares her experiences with us:

As a member of Science on Stage North Macedonia, I had the incredible opportunity to actively contribute to sharing my experiences in STEM education at a regional level. One of the highlights was participating in the STEM Campus Pristina, where educators and professionals from Kosovo, Albania, and other Balkan countries gathered to exchange knowledge and best practices.

During the event, I presented my approach to integrating STEM into teaching, focusing on how interdisciplinary education can enhance students’ understanding and engagement. I emphasized that combining science, technology, engineering, and mathematics creates meaningful learning experiences that go beyond traditional teaching methods.

A particular focus of my presentation was raising awareness about medicinal plants and biodiversity. Drawing from my research in Mali Sharr, I shared practical examples of how local flora can be used as an educational tool. Through hands-on activities and interdisciplinary projects, students can learn to identify medicinal plants, understand their ecological value, and recognize the importance of conserving natural habitats.

The session sparked productive discussions and exchanges of ideas among participants, demonstrating that STEM education can serve as a powerful tool for promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. This experience has further motivated me to continue developing innovative teaching methods and to contribute to international educational networks that aim to improve the quality of education and foster a deeper respect for nature.
