Engineering Teacher Training in North Macedonia

Supported by the Science on Stage Engineering Grant, the teacher training “Empowering Teachers with STEM and Engineering Design Approach” took place on 30 June 2026 at Primary School “Strasho Pindjur” in Karbinci, North Macedonia. Organised and facilitated by Silvana Jakimovska Binova, a mathematics teacher at the school, the workshop aimed to equip teachers with practical approaches for integrating STEM education, the Engineering Design Process, and hands-on learning into their classrooms.

The event brought together 30 educators, including primary classroom teachers and teachers of natural and technical sciences. Due to the high level of interest, the originally planned number of 25 participants was increased to 30.

The workshop combined theoretical input, interactive discussions, collaborative activities, and hands-on engineering challenges. Following an introduction to Science on Stage Europe, participants explored the principles of STEM and STEAM education, discussed innovative teaching approaches and interdisciplinary learning, and worked in groups to transform traditional lessons into engaging STEM learning experiences.

The second part of the workshop focused on the Engineering Design Process, introducing participants to engineering thinking, classroom implementation, and subject-specific engineering challenges. Through practical team activities, teachers designed, tested, and improved prototypes using simple classroom materials. The workshop concluded with a collaborative design challenge, during which participants created innovative teaching aids, followed by presentations, reflection, discussion, and an evaluation of the training.
