European Science on Stage Festival: Together Through Science Education

Berlin/Klaipėda, 27.05.2026 – More than 600 STEAM teachers from over 30 countries will gather in Klaipėda, Lithuania, from 28 to 31 May for the European Science on Stage Festival, Europe’s largest event of its kind. The festival brings together outstanding science teachers to share classroom-tested innovations and strengthen cross-border collaboration through science education.

At a time when Europe is navigating profound change and transformation, the festival offers a powerful anchor: a space for collaboration, trust, and shared responsibility for the future. Under the motto “STEAM Education: Innovation Meets Creativity and Responsibility”, teachers from across Europe come together to exchange ideas, inspire one another, and demonstrate how education can help build stronger, more connected societies.

At the heart of the festival is Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) education. Participants present innovative teaching concepts developed and tested in real classrooms. Through hands-on experiments, interactive workshops, and practical demonstrations, the festival highlights engaging, effective, and inclusive approaches to STEAM teaching at both primary and secondary levels.

“At Science on Stage, we see how teachers turn classrooms into places where curiosity, critical thinking, and cooperation thrive,” says Stefanie Schlunk, chair of Science on Stage Europe. “By sharing practical ideas across borders, they are not only improving science education – they are helping to shape a more resilient and united Europe.”

The importance of the European Science on Stage Festival is underlined by the participation of the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, and the Lithuanian Minister of Education, Raminta Popovienė, highlighting the value of teachers and STEAM education at the highest political level. The program also features a keynote address by Andreas Schleicher, Director of Education at the OECD and coordinator of the international PISA studies, offering an international perspective on education and future skills.

All participating teachers qualified through competitive national selection events in the Science on Stage member countries. The showcased projects range from inclusive teaching approaches and sustainability initiatives to forward-looking work on artificial intelligence.

Outstanding projects will be further developed into international training courses and teaching materials. In this way, Science on Stage Europe ensures that successful ideas reach classrooms across Europe, extending the festival’s impact far beyond the event itself.

The festival is organised by LINEŠA, the University of Klaipėda and its STEAM Center and Science on Stage Lithuania, in cooperation with Science on Stage Europe. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania, the Federation of German Employers' Associations in the Metal and Electrical Engineering Industries (GESAMTMETALL), Vernier Science Education, Amazon Future Engineer, KU Ateities fondas, VEX Robotics, Port of Klaipėda and Klaipėdos Vanduo.

Access to the festival is free for members of the press on all days. Pre-registration is not required.
