Science on Stage at the BGE Sciences Conference

On Saturday 19 September 2026, 85 teachers from primary and lower secondary schools, together with some student teachers, came together in Edinburgh for a day of high quality subject-specific professional learning. The BGE Sciences Conference was organised by the Institute of Physics in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University and the Association for Science Education Scotland, and Science on Stage (SonS) had a strong presence. 

Several of the SonS UK National Steering Committee were present and several delegates who attended the 2026 SonS Festival in Klaipeda presented workshops. David Featonby presented a workshop showcasing recent SonS booklets, especially those on food, money and magic. Paul Tyler presented a session on using AI in primary schools. Lauren McKechnie co-ordinated a 'Best of SonS 2026' workshop with assistance from several of the Klaipeda delegates, including Catherine Dunn and Hayley Sherrard. Hayley also presented a workshop on the science of the honeybee. There was also a SonS exhibition stand in the exhibitors area promoting the wider SonS activities. It was clar that teachers left the sessions and the conference refreshed and enthused with new ideas.
