Report: Skaidrīte Bukbārde
On September 26, Zemgale Region Competence Development Center (Jelgava, Latvia) in cooperation with Jelgava educational institutions, organised the event "Researchers’ Night", under the motto: "Meet superheroes in science, get involved and become a superhero yourself!" The event aims to promote science and research to thge general public and especially young people – preschool and junior class children.
More than 500 children, together with their parents, participated in workshops, experiments, laboratories and other activities, where it was possible to investigate and try out the power of superheroes in a very real way. In an interactive science show, children discovered how the seemingly impossible becomes possible and how science lies at the heart of various superpowers. During the event, children could work in the laboratory, make and launch their own rockets, create bubbles, discover the properties of water, experiment with friction and movement, construct, learn about energy sources, the magic of magnets, electric LEGO, robot art, bridges and towers of the future, and fun geometry. Visitors could also see models of world architectural objects created by students – the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty – as well as innovative everyday assistants created with modern digital technologies. Children could participate in a superhero search game, make a cyborg hand, create their own superhero mask, use digital technology to get into the image of a superhero, and participate in a color mission. There was also an opportunity to participate in an interactive floor game, investigate wizard houses, and work at experimental stations.
