Classroom Pathways into Quantum Computing – Workshop in Slovakia
With support from the Quantum Computing grant, teachers in Slovakia took part in a training focused on bringing Quantum Computing into the classroom.
On 25 August 2026, a 45-minute teacher-training talk entitled “Your Place in the Quantum Future: Classroom Pathways into Quantum Computing” took place at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, as part of the QUTE Summer School 2026. The session was designed for in-service and pre-service teachers interested in introducing quantum computing and quantum technologies into STEM education and focused on practical, accessible approaches for the classroom.
The talk was delivered by visiting trainer Mariana Gueorguieva Filipova from STEALM Academy, Bulgaria. Throughout the session, participants were introduced to the Science on Stage Quantum Computing in STEM Education teaching materials and accompanying presentation slides. These resources were presented as practical tools to help educators integrate quantum topics into their lessons and make them understandable, engaging, and relevant for students.
The programme began with an introduction to Science on Stage and its quantum education resources, followed by classroom-ready examples that explored key quantum concepts. Participants also received an overview of quantum technologies and their applications, with particular attention given to the interdisciplinary connections between physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and technology. A central part of the session was the Quantum Career Map activity, which encouraged participants to connect school subjects and transferable skills with future roles in the growing quantum ecosystem. The talk concluded with a reflection and evaluation session.
In the afternoon, selected topics from the morning presentation were explored further during a practical workshop within the Quantum Didactic group. This interactive session provided participants with an opportunity to discuss the presented approaches in greater depth and consider how the activities and concepts could be adapted to their own teaching contexts.
The wider QUTE Summer School focused on quantum technologies through hands-on learning activities covering topics such as quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum entanglement, and quantum algorithms. Organised by QUTE.sk, the Slovak National Center for Quantum Technologies, in cooperation with the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and FH Technikum Wien, the event took place at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of Comenius University. The Summer School attracted more than 70 participants, while the dedicated teacher-training activities specifically addressed educators working in physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, technology, and interdisciplinary STEM subjects, primarily with students aged 14 to 19.
By sharing practical resources, classroom activities, and new perspectives on quantum technologies, the teacher-training session supported educators in preparing students for a future increasingly shaped by quantum science and innovation.
The Quantum Computing grant
Our member country Science on Stage Germany supports teachers in organising workshops, seminars, and other teacher training activities. Financial grants are awarded for events focusing on selected STEM topics. The grant for teacher training activities around qauntum computing is supported by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Foundation.
