Teachers Explore Engineering Thinking in North Macedonia
On 18 June 2026, the teacher training workshop “Engineering Thinking in STEM Education through Hands-on Activities” took place at Primary School “Hristijan Todorovski Karposh” in Rankovce, North Macedonia. The four-hour workshop brought together 21 teachers to explore practical approaches for integrating engineering thinking and STEM education into their teaching.
The workshop was organised by Igor Nikolovski, a Mathematics and Physics teacher at Primary School “Hristijan Todorovski Karposh”, together with his colleague Martin Macovski. The event was supported through the Science on Stage Engineering Grant.
The participants included teachers of mathematics, physics, informatics, biology, chemistry, and natural sciences, as well as primary school teachers working with students aged 6–15. The workshop focused on the Engineering Design Process and how hands-on learning approaches can foster creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation in STEM education.
The workshop started with an introduction to Science on Stage Europe, its educational resources, and international projects. The hands-on part of the workshop focused on the use of Micro:bit, Arduino, environmental sensors, LEGO construction materials and 3D printing technologies.
Working in groups, teachers designed and tested simple prototypes, discussed possible classroom applications and reflected on how engineering-based learning can be integrated into mathematics, physics, informatics and other STEM subjects. The workshop concluded with presentations, discussion, feedback and the exchange of ideas and experiences among participants.
