Playful Science 19: Promoting hands-on science education in Belgium
On 22 November 2025, ‘Playful Science 19’, organized by Science on Stage Belgium, took place in Brussels, and brought together 200 primary and secondary school teachers.
This event aligns perfectly with Science on Stage Belgium’s mission to promote innovative, motivating science education focused on experimental practice. The aim was to highlight experimentation as a key tool for engaging students and deepening their understanding of scientific concepts, particularly in the post-pandemic context.
Teachers from various scientific disciplines had the opportunity to explore, test, and analyze experimental devices that could be directly applied in their lessons. Activities focused on manipulation, observation, hypothesis formulation, and result analysis. Participants explored simple yet meaningful experiments adapted for secondary education, designed to foster student autonomy and scientific thinking.
The event also provided a platform for exchanging ideas and reflecting on teaching methods. Discussions emphasized how experimentation stimulates curiosity, strengthens motivation, enhances classroom dynamics, and gives meaning to scientific learning.
At the end of the day, participants received an experimental kit to extend the activities in a practical way. Designed for easy classroom use, the kit allows teachers to quickly implement a sequence of experiments with their pupils, reinforcing the lasting impact of Playful Science 19.
Overall, Playful Science 19 supported teachers in their efforts to innovate and strengthened the Science on Stage Belgium network.
