Science Picnic in Latvia to cultivate creativity in STEM education
On 25 September 2025, a Science Picnic took place in Jelgava, Latvia, as part of the project “Cultivating Creativity in STEM Education”. This project, supported by Nordplus, is built around a professional development camp for STEM teachers, organized by the Zemgale Region Human Resource and Competence Development Centre in cooperation with partners from Lithuania and Denmark.
During the Science Picnic, 32 teachers from Denmark, Lithuania, and Latvia explored newly developed teaching materials and tested innovative, hands-on approaches to STEM education. The teachers also developed lesson plans on 10 topics, ranging from living organisms to natural resources and energy.
The teaching materials are available in English, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Danish. They integrate engaging methods, such as design thinking, the use of artificial intelligence tools, and prototyping techniques to promote students’ interest in science.
