Young Researchers on the Stage of Science

Science on Stage Slovenia spearheaded a project at the Davorin Jenko primary school aimed at encouraging an inquiry-based approach to learning. The project, entitled "Young Researchers on the Stage of Science", was overseen by Reanata Flander and supported by the primary school as well as UNESCO, spanning the school year 2024/2025.

As part of the project Young Researchers on the Stage of Science, we conducted an activity during the 2024/2025 school year. The main aim was to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a passion for science among children and young people, while encouraging an inquiry-based approach to learning. The activity was carried out with 15 participants from different age groups within the Davorin Jenko primary school.

The pupils participated in hands-on experiments or project-based activities focused on understanding basic natural phenomena, experimenting with simple materials, or exploring artificial intelligence applications. The activities were designed to promote observation, questioning, and collaborative problem solving, supporting learning objectives such as:

  • Raise awareness of sustainability, diversity, and inclusivity in science.
  • Demonstrate how science can contribute to addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Promote creative use of low-cost experiments and tools.
  • Foster a better understanding of artificial intelligence applications in everyday life.
  • Support career orientation in STEM through role models and real-life applications.

Participation in the Young Researchers on the Stage of Science project was a very positive and motivating experience for both the pupils and the mentors. The activities sparked curiosity, promoted interdisciplinary connections, and demonstrated the importance of science in everyday life.

We are proud to contribute to the final e-book (in Slovenian), which will present a collection of described experiments and activities carried out across the participating schools. This resource will serve as an inspiration and practical tool for further promotion of science among young learners.
