New teaching material: Shedding “light” on a Picasso!
In 2014, scientists and art conservators discovered the form of a man under the main painting of a Picasso, using infrared technology. Can you do this in class, too? Of course – you can visualize various layers of artworks created by students using a simple, low-cost experimental set-up.
This best practice example by Kalliopi Giannakoudaki and Georgios Chatzisavvas from Greece was presented at the European Science on Stage festival 2024 in Turku, Finland. It introduces students to multispectral imaging in a highly motivating way. The project helps them to understand the applications of basic principles of Physics in practice.
Besides physics, the teaching material touches ICT and arts classes. It is aimed at students of 12-15 years with extension activities for 16-18-year-olds.
