Engineering for our Life

key visual

In a world shaped by complex global challenges, engineering plays a vital role in creating solutions that improve everyday life - from saving water at home to developing medical devices or eco-friendly transport. Central to this is the ability to solve problems and think creatively - the essence of engineering. With Engineering for our Life – innovative STEM solutions, organised by Science on Stage Germany, we bring real-world applications into the classroom, making engineering more tangible and relevant for students. The project empowers young people to think like engineers and design their own solutions to the challenges we face in our lives.

Take part as a teacher

Over the course of two years, a total of 23 STEM teachers from all school forms (addressing students from 6-18 years) will take part in this project, collaboratively developing innovative, practice-oriented materials and resources that bring engineering to life in the classroom.

Expected outcome

Participants will work in teams to develop a variety of formats - from lesson ideas to guidelines, teaching resources, work sheets and other innovative approaches - all centered around real-world applications of engineering. The central question guiding the project is: How can engineering improve our lives?

How to apply?

To join this project, you should be a STEM teacher who is open to new ideas, enjoys working with others, and feels comfortable communicating in English. Please upload the completed application form by 15 October 2025.

Participants may choose to explore areas such as - but not limited to: food, energy, healthcare, and the environment. Participants can also look at everything that is part of modern engineering today, such as automation, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT), all of which are transforming how we design, build, and optimize systems across industries.

The project places a strong emphasis on fostering essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, entrepreneurial thinking, effective collaboration and future-readiness -including preparedness for challenges posed by extreme climate and weather events.

Please note that if you are selected, attendance at two in-person meetings is mandatory:

  • 27-29 March 2026 in Germany (Friday to Sunday)
  • A second meeting in February 2027  (exact dates to be announced)

All accommodation, travel and food costs will be covered. Participants should be based in a Science on Stage member country or within the EU.

We are looking forward to your applications!
